Gap Year Australia :: Should I buy or rent a car?

Should I buy or rent a car?

Whether to buy or rent a car is often a dilemma that backpackers face when they arrive in the country. There are lots of pros and cons to both options and at the end of the day it comes down to your circumstances, your time and your budget. If you are only in Australia for a short time, it is probably not worth the trouble of buying a vehicle but if you are planning on staying more than six months, then you may want to consider it. If you do decide to buy a vehicle, keep in mind a couple of bits of advice: firstly, you will probably breakdown at some point so be prepared! Secondly, there’s a chance that you won’t be able to sell the vehicle at the end of your trip, so don’t rely on that money to get you home!
