Train

Australia is blessed with a pretty extensive rail network and travelling by train is a wonderful and leisurely experience. The vastness of the country means that the train journeys can be over 24 hours

It takes 65 hours to get from Perth to Sydney, but I’d rather take the train any day. You will see some spectacular scenery as you glide across the country, all from the comfort of your seat. If you opt for a reclining seat and not a cabin then the prices won’t break the bank. Catching an overnight sleeper makes a welcome change from another long sit down on a coach.

Savings of up to 30% are available on multi-trip passes from International Rail, who are the UK agent for Australian Rail. Some of these passes can only be bought outside of Australia, so take a look at their website whilst you are planning your trip.

Country Link provide a differing set of passes which include a popular East Coast pass. These can be bought both inside and out of the country and represent good value for the independent traveller.
