Details: A position is available MANAGING LIDWALA BACKPAKCER LODGE for a 1 YEAR period. The position is to start 1ST March 2009. Food and accommodation are provided, plus a basic pay of R2,200 per month plus a profit share incentive with the opportunity to earn a further R4,000 per month.
LIDWALA BACKPACKER LODGE is run by ALL OUT AFRICA, an organization that operates in Swaziland, South Africa and Mozambique and runs a range of different wildlife and community working holiday experiences, as well as offering a variety of tours through southern Africa (www.all-out.org). LIDWALA was launched in late 2005 and has become one of Swaziland’s most popular backpacker lodges, which also serves as the main accommodation base for All-Out volunteers on working holiday experiences in Swaziland.
Nestled at the base of Sheba 's breast mountain with a view over the Ezulwini valley and Mdzimba hills, Lidwala Backpacker Lodge sleeps up to 30 people in dorms, permanent tents and a twin room. All rooms have a verandah. Some rooms are en suite, and there are communal showers and toilets. There is a TV lounge with board games and a large deck with pool table and dart board. There is also a self catering communal kitchen with all the necessary amenities as well as a spacious communal braai area. Situated among large boulders (hence it's name), big indigenous trees and a flowing stream the gardens are extensive and offer plenty of space for camping.
A number of things need to be further developed including:
1) a bar offering drinks for sale with a system to manage it,
3) a more structured meal system.
The Lodge is conveniently located for travelling being a Baz Bus stop on the main Ezulwini road directly opposite the entrance to Woodlands Restaurant (mango- zeni combi stop) and within walking distance of most of Ezulwini's main facilities & attractions (craft markets, the Gables shopping centre, hotels, restaurants). The lodge’s unique selling points are: it’s convenient central location, it’s scenic views and extensive indigenous gardens, it’s creative design and feel.
As manager of the lodge you would be responsible for the running of the lodge. This would include the following activities:
• Supervise the assistant Manager and cleaner
• Market the lodge
• Encourage appropriate guests to stay
• Receive & record bookings
• Answer the phone
• Welcome guests
• Look after guests whilst at the lodge
• Organise a presence at the lodge when empty
• Make bookings for guests for activities arranging commission
• Facilitate & record internet use by guests
• Organise food shopping and cooking of meals
• Oversee the cleaning of the lodge & linen
• Organise Lidwala equipment use & maintenance
Oversee the security of the lodge
• Enforce the rules of the lodge
In this position the following are desired attributes:
- A friendly and sociable nature and ability to get on with a wide range of people
- A love of traveling and affinity for free spirited travelers
- Skill in cooking well and organizing food
- Experience in managing and recording funds
- A valid manual driving license of at least 2 yrs
- An interest in helping needy people and the environment would be beneficial
Preferable: previous experience with running a backpacker lodge
