What’s the public transport like in the big cities?

Public transport in the major cities is great – reasonably priced and running ‘til late at night. Melbourne has a great tram system that takes you everywhere around the city and even to some outer suburbs too. You can shoot around Sydney with ease with the underground train network and Perth has a free bus service that loops round the city all day. Adelaide, Brisbane and Darwin also all have good bus services and all the major cities have plenty of taxis.
